Thomas G. (Thomas Gordon) Thompson (1888-1961) studied and taught chemistry at the University of Washington, where he coordinated the establishment of the Oceanographic Laboratories in 1930. Thomas served in the United States Army during World War I and World War II, engaging in chemical warfare research. June and Farrar Burn met in Washington, D.C., were married in 1919, and moved to the Puget Sound area where they lived in Bellingham, Washington, on Waldron Island, and in Seattle. The couple was known for their unconventional and simple lifestyle. June was a writer and a teacher, working a short time at the University of Washington.
